Mariana Ramos
AIT Austrian Institute of Technology

Dr. Ramos is a scientist in the field of quantum communications, with a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, completed in 2022. Her research at Instituto de Telecomunicações - Aveiro, within the Optical Quantum Communications and Technologies group, culminated in the development of innovative polarization-encoded quantum communication systems. Her thesis, "Quantum Communication Systems Based on Polarization Encoded Qubits," pushed the boundaries of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), incorporating cutting-edge polarization encoding and coherent detection techniques.

Currently a scientist at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna, Dr. Ramos continues to break new ground in experimental quantum optics and electronics. Her work includes the development of FPGA drivers for system control and pioneering efforts in the practical implementation of DV-QKD systems. With a strong focus on developing compensation algorithms for polarization drift, she is also exploring the rapidly evolving field of quantum photonic integrated circuits.

As a principal investigator, Dr. Ramos leads the Quantera project Qiss.me and will soon begin work on the EIC Pathfinder project QOsilicious in 2025. She also actively contributes to the Quantum flaship project QSNP. Her expertise and innovative contributions are driving the future of quantum technologies, quantum communication security, and integrated quantum photonics.
