Ekkehard Peik
PTB – the National Metrology Institute in Germany, Braunschweig
Ekkehard Peik is head of the department Time and Frequency at PTB, Germany’s National Metrology Laboratory, since 2007. Prior to joining PTB in 2001, he worked for Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich and has been a Marie-Curie-Fellow for a postdoctoral stay at Ecole normale supérieure in Paris. He obtained the diploma degree in 1988 and the PhD in 1993, both from LMU Munich. His scientific interests are: quantum optics and laser spectroscopy, atomic and nuclear physics, laser cooling and trapping, metrology of time and frequency with atomic clocks, and tests of fundamental principles with clocks.
